Energy Efficiency Matters
The Town of East Hampton has endorsed the East Hampton Power Down, Solar Up campaign in line with our community's continuous commitment to improving quality of life by promoting energy efficiency and clean, renewable energy.

Power Down/Solar Up: FREE Workshop
Join your fellow energy curious and conscious neighbors and friends for a free workshop hosted by the Town's Clean Energy Task Force. The workshop will be held at the East Hampton Public Library on Thursday, May 14, beginning at 6:00 p.m.

Workshop Details
During the workshop you can meet with approved energy experts, discuss your energy concerns, and explore the how to make your home or business more energy efficient. These experts can also provide guidance on how to take advantage of federal tax credits, Energize Connecticut rebates, loan and lease options.

Also on hand will be representatives from Aegis Solar and New England Conservation Services.

Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge Update

Still Spreading the Clean Energy Word
If you have not done so lately, check out the Neighbor to Neighbor CT Energy Challenge website and learn about how 14 Neighbor to Neighbor communities, ours included, are working to reduce home energy use by 20%.

Visit the Take Action or Resource Center pages and use them as gateways to info about home energy issues; home energy assessments (HES); lighting upgrades, and incentives and rebates. You can take the Challenge and earn points for our town through April 2013. Very cool...

A Cold Snowy Day Is a Good Day to Think About Saving Energy
If you have not yet participated in the Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge, today's a good day to think about the benefits of doing so.

Check out the N2N website for information on how to sign up for a free lighting retrofit, completing an inexpensive Home Energy Solutions Assessment, or attending workshops to learn about a variety of energy issues from basic to specific (preventing ice dams, for example).  If you have completed an Energy Solutions visit, also look for info on deeper energy savings that come from taking advantage of tax incentives, low-interest financing, and rebates on energy-saving upgrades to your home.

News from the "Energy Challenge" Front

If You Haven't Yet Heard...
Our town is one of 14 municipalities in our state participating in the Neighbor to Neighbor Energy program, which challenges residents to reduce their energy consumption by 20 percent by 2013.

Marking Our Place
When you participate in the program, you help win points for our town. Total points may help our town earn energy-saving prizes.  As of mid-July, about 200 local households had signed up to participate and our current point total on the Energy Challenge Leaderboard is 11,000.  With a goal to involve 10 percent of homes, or 450 households, let's get busy!

Home Energy Solutions
Home Energy Solutions (HES) is the best way to fully understand how your home is wasting energy. Right now, you can participate in this state-sponsored service valued at around $750 for a co-pay of only $75! This in-depth assessment will not only provide you with weatherization, CFLs, and other energy improvements, but qualifies you for rebates and renewable energy (solar) incentives. Keep Your Wallets Light and Your Light Bulbs Bright!

Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge
Did you know that by switching from incandescent to compact florescent bulbs (CFLs), you generate far less pollution and save valuable household dollars over the lifetime of the bulb?

One easy way to ditch those energy inefficient bulbs and put money back into your wallet is to join the Neighbor to Neighbor Lighting Program.  Sign up and trained Clean Energy Corps team members will replace select incandescent bulbs with CFLs (insert drum roll) for free!  Click here to join the lighting challenge and for detailed information about the replacement program.

Let's Get Busy...
Our town recently signed on to the Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge, an exciting new community-based program to promote energy efficiency and use of clean energy. The friendly competition is for a good cause: helping local residents save money, cut energy consumption and reduce pollution that may affect our health and the health of our lake.

Fourteen Towns and We're One of Them

East Hampton, along with 13 other towns in our state, won a highly competitive grant from the Department of Energy to help more than 400 residents in our town reduce energy consumption and increase their use of renewable energy. The Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge also features a rewards program for the town and community groups (like the library) who are working to get the word out and help our community achieve energy savings goals. When you participate, everyone wins!

First Step

For a limited time, you can sign up for a free in-home lighting visit that will replace an average of 15 inefficient incandescent bulbs. Email your name, address and phone number to lighting@ctenergychallenge.com and please mention you were referred by the East Hampton Public Library.

East Hampton, along with 13 other Connecticut towns and nine partners, was chosen to participate in the Neighbor to Neighbor Energy Challenge. The Challenge is funded by a $4.1M grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and will help our town build off/forward our participation in the Connecticut Clean Energy Communities Program.
